Grind is a truly awful and evil retelling of Cyrano de Bergerac. A gorgeous tall blond twink who is a male model supposedly cannot hook up on gay websites with the cute and smart guys he wants to date. Apparently they don’t answer to “sup” and he can’t write a complete sentence. So he gets his slightly older, slightly nerdier friend to write social media posts for him, and suddenly he’s having one night stands with good looking boys who read books. Though still no one will date him.
This is all done with moderately good production values, a great cast, and good editing. And it’s done as a musical. And then….
Turns out the older nerdy friend is a serial killer. He can only get off watching his own hook ups die. We finally finish a flashback to one of his one night stands we had seen part of, and see that he kills his lovers. Perhaps the writer or director thinks there is some metaphor between hook up “culture” and murder and this excuses his shitting all over an audience. The world is full of boring stupid fools and here is another one.
